The work of the “German Centre for the Protection of Laboratory Animals (Bf3R)” aims to reduce animal experiments to the necessary minimum and provide the best possible protection for laboratory animals. A versatile approach is required to carry out this task. Therefore, the work of the German Centre for the Protection of Laboratory Animals (Bf3R) is divided into five areas of expertise:

Areas of Competence of the German Center for the Protection of Laboratory Animals:

  • The Centre for Documentation and Evaluation of Alternatives to Animal Experiments (ZEBET)
  • Reduction of distress and improvement of living conditions of laboratory animals
  • Alternative methods in toxicology
  • The National Committee for the Protection of Animals Used for Scientific Purposes
  • Coordination of research funding for alternative methods
