BMEL
The Federal Ministry of Education and Research supports research and development projects with the aim of replacing or reducing the use of animals with alternative methods or limiting the stress on laboratory animals to the absolute minimum. Furthermore, concepts for the dissemination of and strategies for the implementation of alternative methods should be supported. Since the change in the guidelines for funding “alternative methods to animal experiments” (Federal Gazette of March 2, 2021), the project sponsor VDI/VDE Innovation + Technik GmbH has been responsible for implementing funding measures. DFG
The German Research Foundation (DFG) promotes knowledge-oriented research via individual projects or coordinated programs as well as via scientific infrastructure. In particular, it focuses on promoting young scientists.
Einstein Foundation Berlin
The Einstein Foundation Berlin has been funding the Einstein Center 3R since 2021 with the aim of developing new therapies for human diseases and at the same time strengthening animal welfare. For example, it is hoped that 3D models from human tissue cultures can replace animal experiments and improve the transferability of laboratory findings to patients. Foundation for the Promotion of Substitute and Complementary Methods to Limit Animal Experiments (SET)
The Foundation for the Promotion of Substitute and Supplementary Methods to Limit Animal Experiments (SET) was founded in 1986. On the initiative of the then Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Forestry, animal welfare organisations and industry representatives work together within this foundation. SET supports three focus areas: (1) Promotion of research projects for the development of alternative and supplementary methods (2) Scientific communication and international activities related to the 3Rs (3) Education and training.
